During my career as a web developer, internet consultant, and adviser with a major domain registrar, I heard the same two complaints about web sites over and over; “it’s too expensive” and “it’s too difficult to maintain”. They were right. It was too expensive and even the smallest changes required a web design professional if you wanted them to be done correctly. For that reason I spent several years trying different approaches to web design. My goal had three parts; develop web sites that were professional, affordable, and easy to maintain.

With traditional website development I was able to produce professional sites that were affordable, but required a web designer to make changes. Alternatively I could make inexpensive web sites that were easy to maintain, but not professional enough. Or I could make professional web sites that were easy to maintain, but the cost of development was too high. It took years to find a solution that achieved all three parts, but by early 2006 I had discovered the solution.

By having a team of professional web designers build sites with Website Tonight, a do-it-yourself web building tool, they were able to produce high quality professional web sites while keeping costs low enough to achieve my first and second objective. Additionally, Website Tonight was simple enough that an average computer user with no web building experience could maintain their own website.
