Social Networks
Sunday, January 3, 2010 22:54Social Networks are websites that individuals use because they are useful or fun, and businesses use to market to those individuals. Social networking is an easy way to expose your business to your target market for absolutely free.
There are hundreds and possibly even thousands of social networks online. Some of them are common household names, but the vast majority are only known and recognized by a niche market. Some of the more commonly recognized social networks include…
Twitter is a service used to share short messages. Create a free account then read short messages (a.k.a. “follow”) from whomever you want. Every time they post a new message (called “tweeting”) you will see it. Anyone that follows you will see the messages you post. Who you follow is voluntary so users select to follow businesses and individuals that “tweet” information they are interested in. We just started our Twitter account for this blog. That means that if you choose to follow us on Twitter you wont have to check for new posts on this site anymore, because we will notify you via Twitter any time we add a new post. You can also choose to have the tweets sent directly to your text messaging service on your phone. To see our Twitter profile click here.
MySpace
MySpace allows you to create a profile for free and customize it with their user friendly tools. Users often customize their profile with information and media related to their personal interests. You can link your profile to other profiles to share profile updates, send messages, and share media. Many users also join groups within MySpace that are geared towards a central topic or interest and allow users can exchange information in a group setting. This creates a very targeted audience for your marketing. However, it is usually against the terms of service to post ads in groups. For that reason your posts need to be informational first and marketing second. For example, if you have a dog grooming service you might post about the best shampoos to use and why, then include a link back to your website at the bottom. Checkout our MySpace profile, here.
