OK so some people want to know how to add a flash introduction to their Website Tonight.  Well we will get to that but for now lets discuss what exactly flash is and what applications you might use it for on your website.

What is Flash?

Adobe Flash, commonly known simply as flash, is a rich multimedia program that has become popular for creating and adding animation, advertisements, and other interactive components to a website.  Adobe Flash uses files in a SWF format, or Shock Wave Flash format, and usually incorporate a .swf file extension.  Flash video files generally have the extension .flv, and can be viewed using flv-aware players such as Windows Media player (with external codecs added), VLC or QuickTime.

Note: Instructions below are for .SWF files only.

OK so now that the boring stuff is behind us, lets get to the fun part, how do you incorporate flash into your Website Tonight?  Like most things in Website Tonight, it is super easy.

Add flash to Website Tonight

  • Login to your Website Tonight Account.
  • Go to your Page Designer.
  • Make sure you are looking at the page you wish to be editing.
  • Find the block you want to add the flash file to, notice that boxes that you can edit are outlined in blue.
  • Click on the area where you want to add your flash file.
  • Above the page designer click on the Insert tab.
  • Hover your mouse over Media and select Flash by clicking on it.

At this point you will have three options, either you can upload a new flash file, select one from the provided list, or use a flash file from another website.

Select a Flash File to Use

  • Click on Select a Flash File, then select the file from the list that you wish to use.

Upload a File

  • Click on Browse, then locate the file on your computer and open the file.
  • Click Upload Files.

Tip: If you cannot see the file you want to upload, you may need to change your selection in the Files of Typefield in the dialog box.

Use a Flash File from Another Website

  • Select Enter the URL to the Flash File.
  • Enter the entire URL where the flash file is currently located.
  • Enter the Width and Height that you want to use for the flash file.
  • Click on the color palette in the Background Color field, select the color you want to use for the background.
  • Click OK.

At this point you should have uploaded the Flash file you wanted to use.  Possibly that was the most convoluted process we have given instructions for, but we hope you still had fun.  For more tips and tricks check back with us after the Thanksgiving Holiday!
