How to Add a Meta Tag to Website Tonight

This post is NOT about the meta keywords tag or the meta description tag. This post is about custom (aka: generic, random, etc) meta tags.

There are hundreds of reasons you may want or need to add a meta tag to one of the pages you built in Website Tonight. For that reason I am going to assume you already generally know what a meta tag does and the purpose of adding the one you are trying to add. There’s a good chance the source that motivated you to add the meta tag showed you an example that looked something like this…

<meta name=”SOMETHING” content=”SOMETHING“>

When using Website Tonight the only parts you care about are the SOMETHING and SOMETHING …WITHOUT the quotes.

How to Add a Custom Meta Tag in Website Tonight

  1. Log in to your Website Tonight account.
  2. Navigate to the page of your site where you want to add a FB thumbnail option.
  3. Click the Page tab (top center).
  4. Hover over the Properties icon (top center under the Page tab).
  5. Select Meta Data from the drop-down menu.
  6. Click the Add Meta Tag button (bottom left).
    • From here you will see a Name field and a Content field. Put the info from the meta tag you are trying to create into the corresponding field. (no quotes)
  7. Click the Apply button (bottom right).
  8. Use the Pages drop-down menu (upper right) to select another page.
    • Repeat steps 3 – 7 for each page where you want the meta tag to be added.
  9. Publish your Website Tonight project.

How to Block Right-Click to Protect Images

If you have images (or anything else) on your website that want to protect then you can disable “right-click”, which is how people get to the “Save As” option. This is not a perfect solution because anyone with advanced web experience can get around this, but it will stop most people from stealing anything you have a copyright on. You can use any (no need to use more than one) of the codes below to block “right-click” functionality, which will prevent most attempts to save your stuff.

Once you have selected the code from below that you want to use, follow these steps…

  1. Log in to your Website Tonight account.
  2. Click the Site tab (upper left).
  3. Use the Manage drop-down menu to select Launch Page Designer.
  4. Navigate to the page where you want right-click disabled.
  5. Click the Page tab (top center).
  6. Hover over the Properties icon and select JavaScript.
  7. Paste the code you select from below into the box titled JavaScript for <head>
  8. Repeat steps 4-7 for each page were you want right-click disabled.
If there is already code in the box then be sure not to delete or replace anything. Simply scroll to the bottom of the box, hit enter on your keyboard a couple times to add some blank lines, and paste the new code there.
You can customize the message the user sees when they attempt to use the “right-click” on their mouse by changing the red text from the code you select below. ONLY replace the red text. If you accidentally delete the quotes around the red text it will break the code.

Disable Right-Click

<script type="text/javascript">
var message="Right-Click Disabled!";
function clickIE4(){
if (event.button==2){
alert(message); return false;
}
}
function clickNS4(e){
if (document.layers||document.getElementById&&!document.all){
if (e.which==2||e.which==3){
alert(message);
return false;
}
}
}
if (document.layers){
document.captureEvents(Event.MOUSEDOWN);
document.onmousedown=clickNS4;
}else if (document.all&&!document.getElementById){
document.onmousedown=clickIE4;
}
document.oncontextmenu=new Function("alert(message);return false")
</script>

Disable Right-Click Without an Alert Message

<script type="text/javascript">
var message="";
function clickIE() {
if (document.all) {
(message);return false;
}
}
function clickNS(e) {
if (document.layers||(document.getElementById&&!document.all)) {
if (e.which==2||e.which==3) {
(message);
return false;
}
}
}
if (document.layers){
document.captureEvents(Event.MOUSEDOWN);
document.onmousedown=clickNS;
}else{
document.onmouseup=clickNS;
document.oncontextmenu=clickIE;
}
document.oncontextmenu=new Function("return false")
</script>

How to Disable Right-Click on Images Only

<script type="text/javascript">
var clickmessage="Right click disabled on images!"
function disableclick(e) {
if (document.all) {
if (event.button==2||event.button==3) {
if (event.srcElement.tagName=="IMG"){
alert(clickmessage);
return false;
}
}
}else if (document.layers) {
if (e.which == 3) {
alert(clickmessage);return false;
}
}else if (document.getElementById){
if (e.which==3&&e.target.tagName=="IMG"){
alert(clickmessage);
return false;
}
}
}
function associateimages(){

Website Tonight is a great tool, but it’s not the only web-based point-and-click website builder on the market. The companies below provide alternatives to Website Tonight that are very similar in many ways. I did not include prices because they will likely change on a regular basis without me knowing.

If you know of any other good easy-to-use website builders then leave a comment at the bottom of this page with a link to their website so I can add them here.

The term “Pre-Built Design” refers to the templates available in Website Tonight that already have text and images added to them (text + images = content). With a pre-built design you simply need to replace the text and images with your own. There are roughly 100 pre-built template designs that are included with Website Tonight.

Script Box

A “script box” is used to add code to Website Tonight that is more advanced than HTML. For example, if you have code for a widget or email signup form that uses JavaScript or some other type of advanced code then you will need to use the script box feature to add it to your site. How to FTP to Website Tonight

Technically speaking there is no FTP access into Website Tonight, but depending on exactly what you are trying to do there may be another way.

How to Upload Files and Images to Website Tonight

If you have files that you want people to be able to download (ex. Word documents, PDF’s, music, etc) then first you will need to upload the file(s) to Website Tonight. Website Tonight includes an easy-to-use file upload feature so that you do not need to FTP. The next step is to create a link to the file from one of your pages.

For detailed instructions read, “Creating Download Links in Website Tonight“.

How to FTP a Website Template to Website Tonight

If you have full web pages that were designed outside of Website Tonight then you cannot FTP them and use Website Tonight to manage and edit the files. That means you cannot hire a web designer to build you a custom website, or purchase a web template somewhere online, and use Website Tonight to work on that website. The only exceptions are the templates for sale here on ProSiteTonight.com. All of the custom templates Pro Site Tonight sells are built exclusively for Website Tonight.

Web Designers – How to FTP a Custom Web Design

Website Tonight is not a standard website builder like FrontPage or Dreamweaver which allow you to modify any HTML file. Website Tonight is a template based CMS (content management system). The user starts by selecting a pre-designed template from within Website Tonight then additional HTML is dynamically generated as the user adds and edits content on the template they selected. The user modifies the site using a built-in point-and-click WYSIWYG (“What You See Is What You Get”, pronounced “Whiz-E-Wig”), but the WYSIWYG only supports Website Tonight templates.

Ultimately this means FTP access to Website Tonight is blocked, and your client cannot use Website Tonight to manage the web design you built for them. They will need to cancel Website Tonight, get a refund, and purchase standard hosting instead.

Alternatively, you can build your clients website for them using Website Tonight, but you will need to start in Website Tonight because there is no FTP. Website Tonight does allow you to add custom HTML and JavaScript snippets to the content areas, the header, and before the closing body tag. You can also modify the templates default CSS using the Advanced CSS editor. These options allow you to add features (ex. widgets, contact forms, social badges, etc) from outside of Website Tonight and give you a bit of control over the design and layout of the Website Tonight template.

Creating Download Links in Website Tonight

This tutorial will show you how to create a download link in Website Tonight. Your download can be a Word document, Excel spreadsheet, MP3, or any other type of file that meets the Website Tonight Upload Requirements.

If the download is a file type that can be displayed by the browser (Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, etc) then there is a high probability that the browser will choose to display the file rather than making the user download it first. For example, a browser can display a PDF file but not a Word document, so the PDF file will be opened online and the Word document will be offered as a download. See examples below.

Step #1: Add Your Download to Website Tonight

  1. Log in to your Website Tonight account.
  2. Click the Site tab (upper left).
  3. Use the Manage drop-down menu to select Upload Files.
  4. Click the browse button.
  5. Find the file on your computer that you want to offer as a download and click on it.
  6. Click the Open button on the popup.
  7. Click the Upload button.
If the file you want to offer as a download is an image then make sure that you put a check mark in the box labeled Place images in files folder before you upload the file. If you don’t then the image will not be uploaded to the correct location which can cause errors later.

Step #2: Create the Download Link

You can make your download link from text or from an image.

How to Make a Download Link from Text

Example Download Text Link >> Download Now << It works, try it!

  1. Log in to your Website Tonight account.
  2. Go to the page you want the download link to be on.
  3. Click on the content block you want to add the link to, so that it is in edit mode.
  4. Type the text you want to use for the download link (ex. “click here to download”).
  5. Use your mouse to highlight the text you want to turn into a download link. For example, if you wrote “click here to download now” and you only want “download now” to be the link then click your mouse and drag over the words “download now” so that only those words (no blank spaces) are highlighted.
  6. Click the Create link icon (upper left – to the right of the bold and italic icons).
  7. Click the dot next to Upload and select the file you uploaded in step #1.
  8. Click OK.

How to Make a Download Link from an Image

When you make an image link to something you are turning the image into a button, even if it doesn’t look like a button. Just to make sure that this isn’t confusing I will be using two examples. Example #1 is a random image that most people would not consider a button, and example #2 is what most people think of when they imagine a download button. Whether you choose to use an image that looks like a download button or not the instructions are the same.

#1 – Random Image Download Link
Funny Monkey Facial Expression
#2 – Button Image Download Link
Example Download Button

Are you wondering what will happen
if you click these example links?
There’s only one way to find out!

  1. Log in to your Website Tonight account.
  2. Go to the page you want the download button (image link) to be on.
  3. Click on the content block you want to add the link to, so that it is in edit mode.
  4. Click the Insert tab (top center).
  5. Use the Images icon drop-down menu to select Images.
  6. Insert the image to use as the link.
    • If you have already uploaded the image to your Website Tonight then click the My Images tab (top center), select the image, and click the OK button.
    • If you have not already uploaded the image to Website Tonight then click the Upload Image tab (top center), upload the image, then select the image, and click the OK button.
  7. Use your mouse to highlight the image (only the image).
  8. Click the Create link icon (upper left – to the right of the bold and italic icons).
  9. Click the dot next to Upload and select the file you uploaded in step #1.
  10. Click OK.
To remove an unwanted border from around an image link double-click on the image, click the Properties tab, put a 0 (zero) next to border, and then click the OK button.

It’s a good idea to offer your download in multiple file types because some people may prefer one type over the other. If you only offer PDF downloads, for example, then some people will not be able to view the download because they don’t have a PDF reader installed. You can offer multiple download file types by saving your download in the separate file types and creating a download link on Website Tonight for each one. Like this…
Download Now:   .TXT Download  |  .DOC Download  |  .PDF Download

How to Move Website Tonight to a Different Host

There are millions of people that have used Website Tonight to build their site, so it’s not that uncommon for someone to ask, “How do I move the site I built with Website Tonight to a different hosting provider?” The answer…

Website Tonight is both a website builder and the hosting for your website. For that reason you can’t move the website you built with Website Tonight to another host.

This is true of every website builder. Whether you build your website with Homestead, Network Solutions, or any other company’s point-and-click website builder, your website is tied to that framework (aka. platform, back-end, etc). Without it your website will not work. This is one of the major downsides of every easy-to-use website builder.

However, you can always download all of your uploaded images and files from Website Tonight, so you can use them to rebuild your site somewhere else. You can also take all the text that you added to the content blocks by simply copying it from Website Tonight and pasting it into the new website builder.

How to Change My Website Tonight Password

Before you change your Website Tonight password you should know…

Website Tonight password updates are not instant. Usually it only takes 2-3 minutes before the change takes effect, but it can take up to 30 minutes.

For example, your username and password for GoDaddy.com is not the same as the user name and password for the Website Tonight account you purchased from GoDaddy.com

To Change Your Website Tonight Account Password

  1. Log in to your Website Tonight account.
  2. Click the Site tab (upper left).
  3. Use the Settings drop-down menu to select Site.
  4. Enter a new password in the Password and Confirm Password fields.
